1940 - THAT GLORIOUS SUMMER

An inspired production showing the reason we managed to win The Battle of Britain written by Nick Hardey and Tony Keyho and directed by Terry Sharp (all HADS members), featuring the events of that summer but encompassing everything from pre-war designing of the first Spitfire, via the London blitz (in a tube station) until the celebration of our victory and the singing of 'We'll Meet Again'

The story is told in a series of mainly short scenes, which miraculously folded out from the dark plain flats to reveal an elegant Polish room,,ACM Dowding's office at Bletchley Park, the inside and outside of RAF Nissen huts (including one at Northolt Aerodrome)and, re-emphasising the local involvement, Churchill's visit to the RAF Uxbridge Bunker shown with other scenes on a specially built side stage.
Technically brilliant, with superb sound effects, well chosen film interludes and scenes introduced by projected titles and a huge dedicated cast almost all playing more than one role, it was described by the NODA London Regional Councillor as "a delight to see such an imaginative drama on stage comprehensively portrayed by excellent performances" with her congratulations to all concerned.
